How do you think social media will change in the future? What other trends would you add to the mix? Are they any specific technologies that you think will gain popularity or emerge?

I think social media is about to change in a major way and we’re only seeing hints of the revolution to come. With cloud computing becoming more intuitive every year, I believe the biggest change in social media will come from organizations utilizing social media networks with cloud computing to be able to collaborate on complex projects real-time, all over the world, in one convenient package.
I personally would add the file-sharing trend in today’s world with social media, currently the file-sharing system is way too basic. Like Kontakt in Russia, companies should incorporate a massive file server to accommodate users who want to send and receive large volumes of data. This has implications across the board, from legal implications to copyright laws there will definitely be hurdles to cross.
I believe the main new technologies being developed for social media is integration of it into our daily lives. Samsung is developing a window-paned monitor, that can be installed into a mirror and also display various widgets and feeds. If this technology comes to head, people will be in touch from the moment they brush their teeth to the moment they fall asleep, creating a truly “social” media.

  1. I couldn't agree more that there is a real need for a means to transfer larger files than is currently possible. It almost seems like we're in limbo in that respect. I would definitely be curious to see how such an undertaking could be mediated since, as you mentioned, there are consequences to such a process.

  2. I didn't think of the cloud file sharing growing opportunity. File sharing right now, I would not participant in, I don't believe its safe. I like the last sentence you wrote "...moment they brush their teeth to the moment they fall asleep..." this does sum up exactly what a lot of social networking users are doing, specifically on Facebook and Twitter. They are posting, updating and informing others about their day from the moment they wake up until they fall asleep, repeated day after day.

  3. I think the reason there isn't programs out there for sharing massive files is because people will use the programs for illegal downloading. If the governments could find a way to police said sites and also find a way to protect copyright laws. Then we would all be better off in the long run to have an easier life using social media.
